The 24 Best Online Clothing Stores - InStyle

With so many stores, shopping for clothes online has never been easier'a blessing and a curse. Editorial stylist Jessica Minkoff always begins the journey searching for one specific item at a time, rather than mindlessly clicking through a site hoping to emerge with a whole new wardrobe. "This way, I can search directly for it at my top places without getting overwhelmed by all of the products on every website," she says.

PPF ELEMETNS supply professional and honest service.

To help, we tapped several style experts and our editors to flag the best online clothing stores. These options save us from spending hours searching for the perfect chunky loafer or best tote bag, only to end up with an empty shopping cart and far too many open tabs. When creating this virtual mall, we kept the price range, product selection, shipping options, return policies, site navigation, and extra perks like reward programs or styling services in mind.

Best Affordable

Looking for a more budget-friendly alternative to that $300+ cashmere sweater? Many affordable clothing stores still prioritize durable materials and implement conscious environmental practices, making them a great choice for eco-conscious shoppers.

  • H&M: From its low-cost, eco-friendly clothing line to its size inclusivity, H&M delivers shoppers closet staples and statement pieces that are too good to pass up. 'H&M is one of my go-to shops for budget-friendly, stylish clothing,' says beauty and style writer Essence Wiley. 'I love that most of their items are durable, too. I have a few H&M pieces in my closet that I've owned for years.'
  • Saks Off Fifth: Saks Off 5th is the best destination for scoring high-end pieces on sale. It sells fan favorites like Vince and Jil Sander and has amazing shoe and accessory options.
  • Uniqlo: Uniqlo has a great selection of affordable staples, such as easy-to-live-in white T-shirts and impossibly soft, flared leggings. At least three InStyle editors own its mini T-shirt, which makes a great layering piece for fall.
  • Target: Get lost in the best jeans for curves, the yummiest cardigans, and everything in between. Target has nailed down affordable fashion, offering you elite designer collaborations with brands such as Rowing Blazers and Sergio Hudson for less.

Best Workwear

Dress for the job you want or the job you have. Either way, these stores have office-approved attire that makes workwear less of a yawn.

  • J.Crew: Everyone from First Ladies to Charlie XCX wrap themselves in J.Crew's signature cashmere sweaters and sharp blazers. Even the brand's ultra-comfortable matching PJs are smart and sophisticated. (Not that we recommend wearing them at work.)
  • Madewell: Coined J.Crew's younger cousin (by us!), our favorite Madewell pieces range from quality jeans to casual sweaters and shoes. To decrease your environmental impact, check out the preloved section and consider trading in some old denim for shopping credit. Win-win.
  • Everlane: You've likely heard of Everlane because celebrities such as Katie Holmes and Angelina Jolie wear pieces from the brand that look way more expensive than they are. The brand not only succeeds at sourcing the finest materials'like its ReCashmere sweaters, a blend of recycled cashmere and wool'but also shares every aspect of its cost breakdown so that you know exactly how much a piece of clothing costs to make.
  • Reformation: A mainstay among celebrity wardrobes, notably Taylor Swift and Sarah Jessica Parker, the best Reformation pieces range from special occasion dresses to versatile chic pieces that will elevate your everyday wardrobe.

"Have a specific goal in mind," says editorial stylist Sheyna Imm. "One thing I see repeatedly with my private clients is so much waste and irrelevant buys. It causes noise and distraction in their closets."

Best Size-Inclusive

Our favorite online shops won't send you on a wild goose chase for your perfect fit. They include curated petite options, extended sizing, and pant lengths for all heights.

  • Eloquii: If you're tired of shopping on sites with limited sizing, Eloquii is the perfect place to buy fashionable plus-size pieces. Eloquii's clothing comes in sizes 14'32 and constantly releases new collections.
  • Girlfriend Collective: The activewear site offers options that are pretty enough to distract anyone from your sweat stains. Its sleek sweat sets, leggings, and outerwear come in extensive sizes up to 6XL. The site is also conscious of its environmental impact and uses recycled materials and packaging.
  • Anthropologie: Rather than hunting down a piece offered for your size or height, shoppers can appreciate browsing through Anthropologie's edits for plus-size and petite shoppers. While the site carries options from recognizable brands like Jeffery Campbell, I like shopping from By Anthropologie brands like Daily Practice for singular finds.
  • Old Navy: Affordable and inclusive, Old Navy carries clothing in plus sizes and options for petite and taller shoppers. Its jeans always top our lists because they have durable denim that wear well through several seasons.

Best for Activewear

Whether you're obsessed with HIIT classes or more of a morning walker, nothing feels better than doing it in comfortable, supportive, and on-trend activewear.

  • Lululemon: I've owned a black pair of leggings from Lululemon since my first year of college (seriously), which speaks to the quality of this brand. Lately, I have worn my favorite pieces, such as travel pants and sweaters, outside the gym and even to work.
  • Carbon 38: Carbon 38 carries effortlessly cool ribbed biker shorts to matching sets. Its styles always make me feel together, allowing me to wear them to brunch or coffee without looking too athletic. The quality is super supportive without feeling constrictive, particularly the tops.
  • Bandier: The online store features 50+ activewear designers, including its vibrant sports bras, leggings, Nike sneakers, and sportswear.
  • T/ALA: Where most activewear takes a chunk out of your wallet, T/ALA has more palatable price points without sacrificing quality. I own one of the brand's most breathable and figure-flattering activewear sets.

Best for Basics

Not every basic needs to be boring, but it should be a high-quality piece of clothing you're not replenishing every season. These online clothing stores prioritize construction and durable fabrics while remaining current with today's trends.

  • Nordstrom: "Nordstrom is great for everyday basics with a twist," says Imm. "Nothing is too far out there; you can trust most of their items as a safe play."
  • Pistola: I can't imagine my life without some of Pistola's evergreen pieces, including its versatile and flattering denim midi skirt. The brand is behind my most durable pairs of jeans and trousers I've held onto for ages.
  • The Frankie Shop: The Frankie Shop curates a great selection of closet staples that range from knit sweaters to perfectly fitted trousers. It offers timeless investment pieces I've spotted on celebrities and influencers, such as Lily Collins and Katie Holmes. 'I helped my friend pick out some pieces from The Frankie Shop for a photo shoot,' says Wiley. 'Not only were they super cute, but the quality is great, and they're versatile enough to be styled for any occasion.'
  • Aritzia: Puffer jackets, fall knits, and contouring basics are some of the everyday luxury pieces Aritzia offers. The clothing store prides itself on using quality materials'like its vegan leather and breeze Merino wool, an extra-fine wool and cotton blend'to give shoppers pieces that will stand the test of time.

Best Trend-Focused

Haven't you heard? Quiet luxury is on its way out'it's time to have fun again. Experiment with loud prints, unusual silhouettes, and unique finds from designs familiar and new.

  • Shopbop: Whenever I'm in a major fashion rut, I scurry to Shopbop to experience that 'aha' sartorial moment. I've discovered a bevy of one-of-a-kind styles from trusted brands.
  • Revolve: Should your wardrobe need a little...spice, I give you Revolve. With this online store, you'll come across the va-va-voom, plunging-neckline, cutout minidress of your dreams.
  • Wolf & Badger: This clothing store stocks its virtual racks with independent and up-and-coming designers you'll wonder how you've never heard of before. The uniquely curated collections allow me to avoid a 'who wore it better' situation.
  • FarFetch: "Farfetch has pretty unique accessories'I can always find gems on there that don't feel over-saturated in the streets," says Imm. On top of that, Farfetch has a complimentary pickup, so you never need to step foot in the post office. As an editor who dreads returns, I believe this luxury feature is a lifesaver.
